Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet – 1923
The all-seeing eye was one of the features of some of Kahlil Gibran’s drawings. The bronze sculpture is available as a life-sized maquette. A marble, wooden, or resin base is optional.
As you may have gathered by now, like millions of others, I’m a great fan of The Prophet. It is an amazing book that has been life-changing for so many who have read it. It remains in most reader’s libraries for life.
I discovered The Prophet in 1972, when I met Professor Suheil Bushrui at the American University AUB in Beirut. I also visited the Gibran Museum, in Bsharri. The professor became a great friend and kindly recited The Prophet, in Arabic, at my wedding in 1992.
In the Gibran Sculpture Series…
This sculpture was the third work that I made in the Gibran Sculpture Series and important to me. It is important because it puts Gibran’s sacred hand into 3 dimensions while playing tribute to his genius. The hand is moulded from life.
The all-seeing eye is regularly used in the Middle East in jewellery and is often seen in pendants. It is also a part of masonic rituals too, drawn in a triangle as one of their symbols.
