The Gibran Sculpture Series is really inspired by the words of The Prophet and that is not strictly true of this sculpture.  I made it at the beginning of the civil war in Lebanon in 1975 and it was my very strong wish and intention to pray for peace.

I was already a devotee of Gibran’s writings and philosophy.  So here I used my image of Almitra, to express a Prayer for Lebanon as it became engrossed in war.

PEACE AND PRAYER

My dream of peace, and for every single person to respect the appearance, opinions and the beliefs of all human beings, of course, still remains.

It is, if anything, even more relevant today than it seemed in 1975.

THE BEIRUT HARBOUR EXPLOSION

The horrendous explosion in Beirut, on 4th August 2020, will have long, drawn out consequences.
Prayer is, if anything, even more needed now than during that terrible war.

Those of us not living in Beirut can only guess at the horror of the explosion.  Together with the ravages of the coronavirus, Covid-19, the whole of Lebanon is suffering very severely.  But, knowing the Lebanese people as I do, they will make an amazing recovery and thrive in the future.
