HM The Queen closed the 1998 Commonwealth Games and we were
introduced as the sculptors who created this work in the UK, not far from
her home at Windsor.
I understand that this heroic bronze sculpture is now held in great esteem
in Malaysia as their national monument. It is a focal point for visitors
who are photographed standing next to it or sitting on its handle.

* A Keris (pronounced ‘Kris) is a type of double-bladed dagger found in South East Asia, across the Malay
archipelago. It is generally ‘wiggly’ as opposed to straight, but there are straight bladed ones as well.
The concept is very old – potentially dating back 2000 years. While they come in all shapes, sizes and
styles, the fundamental features are that they are asymmetrical and always short (so never a sword).
The mythology, respect and superstition surrounding them is extremely profound to this day.
